Bakersfield has an extensive history as an academy town, Brigham Academy being the jewel in the crown. We have many pictures, cemetery lists, and Civil War documents.
Many of the collected items relate to the Dr. B. J. Kendall Company and other medicineproducing companies that operated in Enosburg in the late 1800s. There are also plans for farm and dairy exhibits and a railroad site.
The building that houses the Society's Museum has a history of its own. Built in 1807, the original town hall, a one room school, and the casket showroom for the HayesRich Funeral Home is now home to artifacts of Fairfax's history. The museum is in a former brick schoolhouse built in 1891. The schoolroom and several small side rooms contain an indexed collection of 5,000 photographs, documents, genealogies, household furnishings, early apparel, paintings by local residents, and farm equipment. The Society's focus is on memorabilia of Georgia; there are genealogically relevant files on 250 families of Georgia.
This local history museum is in an 1830 schoolhouse and a 19thcentury blacksmith shop, originally located in the center of town. There are blacksmith tools, photographs, family records, Native American artifacts, and items of local interest.
The society is located in Pratt Hall, a former Episcopal church (built in 1835) to house its collections of photographs, albums, tools, and items of local interest. Activities include Harvest Heyday in Sept and summer concerts. Press Hall is renowned for its stained glass windows.
Many early Richford newspapers on microfilm. Artifacts include photographs, documents, calendars, WW II posters, Richford advertising and much more. Currently working on obtaining museum space.
Museum is a three story brick building (a school house) constructed in 1861. The first two floors are dedicated to exhibits about Central Vermont Railway, history of Champlain valley, and St. Albans (as portrayed by a large diorama, a school room, a medical history exhibit, a home and hearth room, an exhibit concerning Western Abenakis, a military history room, and a room dedicated to local musician Sterling Weed. The third floor contains Robert G. Bliss Memorial Hall to be used for community events.
